Minneapolis/St. Paul Church of Christ
About Us
We believe as the scriptures teach that the Minneapolis/St. Paul Church of Christ is part of God's worldwide spiritual family (Eph 2:19-22). As we are God's family, our devotion to one another goes far beyond our weekly worship services (Rom 12:9,10). In our spiritual battle together, we strive to encourage and love one another daily (Acts 2:42-47, Heb 3:12-13). We have the utmost respect for the scriptures . God's holy Word (Isa 66:2). We believe that the Bible is inspired by God (2 Pet 1:20,21) and therefore the absolute authority for our lives (2 Tim 3:16,17).
Our purpose as clearly stated in the Word is to love God wholeheartedly (Mark 12:29-31) by imitating the heart and life style of Jesus Christ (1 John 2:3-6, Phil 2:5). Our conviction is that everyone who claims to be a Christian must strive to love and follow God as Jesus did. We, as all do, fall short in our sincere efforts to follow Jesus, but thankfully we are smothered in God's forgiving grace (1 John 1:5-10). It is because of His grace that we are so determined to imitate our wonderful savior each day.
Our mission is plainly given to us in Matthew 28:18-20, where Jesus calls us to .make disciples of all nations. Jesus powerfully lived out this mission while he was on earth. Our hearts desire, like our Savior's, is to reach as many as possible with the gospel. As Jesus demonstrated, we have a deep desire to help the poor and needy (Mk 1:40-42, Mt 25:31-46).
The Bible teaches that all have sinned (Rom 3:23). Even the best of us have fallen woefully short of God's holy standards. Thankfully, salvation is by grace. God's gift to us is made possible by Jesus' death on the cross (Eph 1:7, 2:8). Our efforts to impact others for Christ, our loving obedience, and our desire to be like Christ (John 15:4,5) do not earn our relationship with God. However, these fruits do reveal that we have his life pulsating within us (John 15:1-16). Because of this, our primary focus is for every disciple to be like Jesus in heart and action, to love as He loved. Then God's life will be in us and work through us.
In all, God's grand dreams for His church is to display His wonderful wisdom to all, including the unseen spiritual world around us (Eph 3:10). Satan is confounded and defeated when he sees our diverse church truly unified in heart. When out of this divided world, God creates a selfless and loving church, then the Lord is powerfully glorified (John 17:20-23). In Minneapolis-St. Paul, we are very serious about being completely unified here in our church and also with our sister churches around the world. We believe that divisiveness is the most serious of all sins (1 Cor 3:16, Titus 3:9-10) and we consider it the greatest of all privileges to be sons and daughters in God's family. One day our Father in Heaven will bring us home (2 Cor 5:1-10, Phil 3:20,21) to be with Him for eternity. We deeply rejoice in the gift of our salvation.
